Free Bus Travel in England - National Bus Pass Scheme
The National Bus Pass Scheme entitles men and women over 60 to free off-peak bus travel on all local buses throughout England.

How do I qualify?
You need to be over 60 years.
When and where can I travel?
The new national scheme will allow pass holders to travel in off-peak times (9.30am - 11.00pm) on local bus services throughout England.
The scheme does not include long distance coach services such as National Express who offer discount fares to people 60 plus.
How do I get my free bus travel pass?
People with a current bus pass will automatically receive a new national bus pass sent by their council. If you don't have a bus pass you will need to apply for one through your local council.
Why do I need a new bus pass?
The new scheme will be nationwide and it will be necessary to have a nationally recognised bus pass. As of April 2008 there will be a standard bus pass throughout England to make it easier for people using the pass and bus operators.
The bus pass is the same size as a credit card and contains smartcard technology -- a small microchip which may be used for electronic ticketing in the future.
