The United Kingdom is in the process of switching to the new digital TV signal. The traditional analogue signal will eventually be switched off, so you won't be able to watch television unless you have the equipment for digital TV.
The digital signal is delivered through:
- An aerial (via either a digital box or digital TV)
- A satellite dish
- A cable
- A telephone line
- An aerial and phone line
Are you eligible for assistance?
If you are over 75 you can get assistance with the following:
- Helping you choose the right equipment
- Providing easy-to-use equipment that suits your needs
- Help with installing the equipment in your home
- Fitting a new dish or aerial if it is needed to make the new equipment work
- A simple demonstration of how everything works and
- Someone you can call for help while you're getting used to things
Those over 75 who are not receiving any Government benefits will have to pay £40 towards the costs. However, if you're over 75 and receiving Pension Credit you will be able to choose a digital set-top box and have it installed for free.
