Yes it's true the oldies are having more fun than the kids as they exercise on machines designed to train and gently stimulate thighs, torso, legs and hips for older people. Even the most disabled and

poorly can benefit immensely as the exercise is gentle and the machines fun filled and especially adapted for wheelchair users too.

Originally based on a German idea, the fitness Playground has been built by the Residents' Association in Dam Head, Blackley for the over 60s! Costing £15,000 and funded by the local housing management company, it makes a welcome change for the elderly accompanying grandchildren on their visits to the park! The children can look over the fence and watch their grannies exercising and having fun.

Gordon Lishman who is director general of Age Concern says: "A well-designed fitness park could be a great way to encourage older people to exercise and socialise. Many older people aren't exercising enough and we are really keen for local authorities to offer a range of accessible and affordable facilities that promote physical activity in later life."

It can all be summed up in one sentence from Peggy Yuill, 74 - "It makes you feel 21 again!"
