RIAS First-Ever Grandparent of the Year Awards

RIAS, the over 50s insurance provider, and Yours magazine have formed a partnership to create their first ever “Grandparent of the Year Awards".

Grandparents are often overlooked, but nevertheless offer wisdom, support and love to their children and grandchildren. Some help to look after the grandkids, while others even take over the care of grandchildren entirely if necessary.

Until 2 September, the public can enter any grandparents they’re acquainted with – in the form of friends, parents, or their own grandparents – in one of five categories: Active, Fun, Hero, or Glam Gran or Grandad, and finally Gran or Grandad of the Year.

Each category will have one winner, of which one has the opportunity to become Grandparent of the Year for 2011.

According to a Presitt report, the judges are an impressive group of celebrity and accomplished grandparents and workers in their fields: Celebrity grandparent Janet Ellis will be one of the judges. She will be assisted by Denise Murphy, Chief Executive of charity Granparents Plus, Lynn Chesterman of Grandparents Association, Janet Connor, Managing Director of RIAS, and the Editor of Yours Magazine Valery McConnell.

This is an excellent opportunity for family members and friends to show the grandparents in the country that they are appreciated indeed.
