Project Transform To Empower Norfolk Older People

Norfolk’s older residents are soon to get the chance for more say in the services that are delivered to them. Age UK Norfolk’s Project Transform will be implemented over three years and will be funded by an anonymous £300,000 gift to the charity.

Community hubs will be created at several locations, including the Denny Centre in Diss, Herondale in Acle and Grays Fair Court in New Costessey. These centres will provide information to older people, along with advice.

One of the best things about the programme is that it will also provide the older people the charity serves with the opportunity to start their own activities and programmes in their communities. This is a recognition that older people are not merely passive recipients of whatever charities and “experts” believe is best.

Instead, older people are recognised as individuals with certain needs and requirements. The charity is taking this a step further by empowering them to take an active, leadership role in the activities offered by the charity.

According to Kate Rudkin, the head of development and operations, the aim of the programme will be to help older people feel that their lives and opinions matter, and to put some control over their lives back into their hands.
