Real Help Now Over 60s

Following the General Election of 6 May 2010, the Real Help Now website was closed.

There is no question times are tough. In particular people of retirement age and beyond may have been hit the hardest. That is why the Government has launched an essential guide for pensioners and those over 60

explaining what help is available to them and where to find it on a range of issues.

The 40-page booklet Real Help Now for over 60s launched by Minister for Pensions and the Ageing Society, Angela Eagle MP, provides a single resource for the over 60s, detailing information such as how to claim Pension Credit, assistance with fuel bills, help with employment and a variety of other topics.

At the launch of the booklet in Newcastle today, Angela Eagle MP said: “Those over 60, especially those on a low income, can feel particularly vulnerable during economic downturns.

“The Government is already providing real help to pensioners including increased pensions and help with fuel bills. This booklet gives them all the advice they need to get the help they need.”

“Pension credit is one of the ways the Government is helping the poorest pensioners, and earlier this year we increased it by the largest amount since it was introduced. I urge people to get all the help available to them by making sure they are getting benefits, like pension credit, they are entitled to.”

The booklet includes all of the information those over 60 need in one place, including:

  • Help with pensions and benefits
  • Help with fuel bills
  • Help with savings and managing your money
  • Help for those on a low income
  • Help with money problems
  • Help with keeping your home
  • Help with skills and learning
  • Help with jobs
  • Contact details for further help
