The present generation of over 50s are refusing to become fazed or pessimistic in the face of the present gloomy economic outlook. A survey carried out by Lloyds TSB Insurance in which people across
different generations were interviewed, reveals that over 50s are the most likely to have an optimistic and satisfied outlook.
The results of the survey indicated that people in the 50 plus age bracket tend to focus on doing what they want to do in life and value their flexibility and freedom to do so.
When asked how they valued their present quality of life, as many as 43% of over 50s responded very enthusiastically in comparison to only 27% of those in their 40s and 36% of under 24s. Generally over 50s were quoted by other generations as most likely to be enjoying good health standards, financial security and freedom to do as they wish. In fact half of over 50 respondents declared total satisfaction with their lifestyle as compared to 30% of those who were in their 40s and 36% of people under 24.
It seems that over 50s value most of all, the ability to spend time with family and friends, travelling and keeping fit, with only 8% of respondents maintaining an interest in work matters.
