According to a report on the Fair Investment website, over 50s are more adventurous than ever before and vast numbers of this generation are travelling abroad. Not only are they going away more frequently, but they are also journeying far further afield.

Research from Age Concern has revealed an increase of 41 per cent in 2009 of people taking out worldwide travel insurance. In addition, there has been an increase of 20 per cent in the number of people over 50 who have been seeking travel insurance for winter sports holidays, such as skiing and tobogganing, showing that this is should not always just be seen as a hobby for the young.

Over 50s are using the Internet to source their travel insurance more and more. Age Concern Enterprise for example, has seen an increase of 35 per cent in Internet sales of travel insurance for this age group. Joe Young of Age concern Insurance Services said: "Globe trotting is no longer the reserve of the young. Over 65s are as likely to be travelling the world as younger generations as they search for ways to bring excitement to retirement."

Furthermore, there is no indication of this trend slowing down with Mr Young predicting a "travel boom" as more and more over 50s decide to explore more exotic and far away destinations.
