100 older people took part in a survey which showed that people aged between 60 and 90 are more concerned about ageism than becoming a victim of crime.
The survey was carried out by Thinktank Demos in conjunction with Brunel University. It revealed that most of the older people who took part in the survey are adamant about continuing to work or volunteer and keep active in general.
As one older person put it; "I am sick of the portrayal of my age group by Government reports and news."
The results showed that most older respondents were in favour of the abolition of compulsory retirement but on the other hand were keen to see greater flexibility in jobs.
Co-author of the report Louise Bazalgette said, "This is a generation of older people unlike any before. Not only are there more of them, but they will live longer than previous generations, they are healthier, are willing to work for longer and have more political and spending power."
