Older People Asked to Point Out Danger Spots

This month (November) Age UK's North Tyneside's Older People's Engagement Network (OPEN) is running a scheme whereby older people can take part in preventing outside falls. They have been asked to identify pavements in need of repair.

Next week the organisation is to open a "pavement cafe" in North Shields where older people can nominate the sections of pavements in need of repair. They are asked to note down a careful description, take a photograph where possible and to give a reason as to why the repair should be carried out.

The pavement cafe is to open at Jarrett’s Coffee Shop at the Bradbury Centre, 13 Saville Street West, on Thursday, November 10, from 2pm to 3.30pm. There will be a second event taking place on Monday November 14th at the White Swan Centre in Killingworth.

Both events have been promoted with a view to preventing older people from falling at home too and so there is a ‘Make your Home Falls Free’ information pack including a checklist and a self assessment form available to attendees.

These information packs can also be collected any time in November from the Bradbury Centre or Age UK’s Whitley Bay Centre. Later this month, there will be a display in the Forum in Wallsend where the packs will be available too.
