In response to a need he has perceived among the ageing population in Norfolk, former care home owner, Peter Adams, is planning a retirement village at Scole. Mr Adams will be submitting proposals for 90 units off Norwich Road.
The Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) will cater for older people who find living in a care home or sheltered housing unacceptable.
It will include a mixture of bungalows, cottages, and apartments along with communal facilities such as a café, laundry, hydrotherapy pool, spa and fitness centre, and any other facilities residents will need to in order to live a comfortable and independent life.
Mr Adams said that the CCRC village would be ideal for older people who want to remain active and independent, while care and support remains nearby for 24 hours per day.
He said: “If you can offer buildings on one site, you can give care to them in their homes. There are places that do it in apartments, but these will be mostly houses and bungalows. The unique concept has only been in the UK for six to seven years.”
According to a Diss Mercury article, Mr Adams is hoping to submit a formal planning application after about two months. There is a significant need for such a scheme in the area, as Norfolk has the highest proportion of over 85s in the east of England.
