Age Concern, as part of its Active Ageing Programme, is promoting “myfriends online week”. It will take place in the week 16-20 March 2009.
It’s all about helping the elderly to keep in touch.
Older people are being encouraged to attend an even to find out about the most up to date ways to make new friends, keep in touch with them and also the best ways to keep in touch with old friends, family members. They can even host a “myfriends online week” event.
Any so-called “silver surfers” can find out where to go for a free taster session and get clued-up about online social networking by browsing the Age Concern website at www.ageconcern.org.uk.
Anyone who would like to host an event will need a computer and access to the internet. Details about how and what to do are on the Age Concern website.
Planning an event would be a great way to take part and get really active in the promotion. Age Concern and partners can assist with planning, including publicising the event, making posters, and developing learning packs and information booklets for attendees.
It’s a great idea for encouraging older people to embrace the latest ways of staying in touch with valued friends and family.
