Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

There are a number of insurance companies who say they can save you money if you are over 50. So what deals are available? Here are some quick examples:

RIAS offer cheaper insurance for over 50s as they are less likely to make a home insurance claim.

'More Than Offers' car insurance, for drivers aged 50 and over, claim they may help you “save £151 or more”. In their own survey it was reported that 10% of customers aged 50 and over saved £151 or more.

Lloyds TSB offer a large no-claims discount of 70% exclusively to drivers over 50, saying it is unfair that experienced drivers are penalised for younger drivers’ inexperience.

Age Concern – specialists for the over 50s, offer car and home insurance “at a price you can afford” to people over 50.

'Insure4Retirement' say that more than 40% of their customers have saved over £50 by switching to them. They also offer a free Parker pen with your renewal quote!

Saga insurance is one of the best known providers of services for the over 50s, including insurance. They pride themselves on offering excellent service as a leading specialist insurance provider for the over 50s.

Prudential offer a 70% no-claims discount on their car insurance, providing people over 50 with a “better deal”. You can also save 10% by buying online.

'Castle Cover' is another fifty plus insurance specialist. They believe they can save money for people who are over 50 and hold the opinion that this age group tend to be more careful with their homes, cars and possessions and generally don’t exaggerate or falsify their insurance claims - making them cheaper to insure. Castle Cover only insure customers who are 50 plus. They also offer a Parker pen with every home insurance quote!

As with everything when it comes to getting good value for money, don't be completely influenced by the bold claims of insurers and always shop around and compare what you get included in your policy and how much it will cost you.
