A free event planned by Essex Later Life Expo for over 50s in Colchester is still set to go ahead despite the ongoing cold icy spell we have all been enduring in recent weeks.

The event, is to take place at Charter Hall in Colchester on 20 January and is an all-day show lasting from 10am to 4pm.

The organisers are providing a half-hourly additional shuttle service to the event which will run from Colchester bus and train stations to Charter Hall.

Supporting the event, councillor David Finch who is cabinet member for adults, health and community well-being, commented that they are encouraging residents to take utmost care when travelling but that the extra shuttle service should "ease the burden of travelling during this cold spell, especially for those coming from across the country."

The councillor added that the "wonderful programme of events and exhibitors" would inform older residents as to what is available to them insofar as remaining active and connected to the community.

Two popular TV personalities will be at the event: Dave Monk from BBC Essex and the resident gardener on the BBC's The One Show, Christine Walkden. Activities on offer will include line-dancing, bowls, table tennis, cricket, badminton and orienteering.

What's this?

A recent poll suggests the Tories' lead over Labour is just two points. Do you think Gordon Brown can win the next election?
