Last year Hertfordshire County Council "performed well" in their provision of care for older people and those with physical and learning disabilities. This year showed even greater improvement as the local authority has now risen to the highest grade - it was deemed that they performed excellently.
Service users and their carers receive the greatest encouragement from the council to live independently. There are a wide range of alternatives to residential care and a host of volunteering opportunities across the county.
Executive member for adult care and health Richard Smith said: "This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work of our staff every day to improve the lives of vulnerable adults which can often go unnoticed.
"Although the majority of the report is extremely positive, there are always areas in which we can do better. We will continue to work hard to improve the lives of older people and those with physical and learning disabilities."
The council was rated as performing excellently in five out of seven categories and in the remaining two was said to be performing well.
The Liberal Democratic spokesman on adult care services still felt it of concern that there remain areas that need further improvement and said that the council would now examine these to see what they can do.
