Two elderly shoppers were so intent in choosing their favourite cheese in their local supermarket, that they failed to notice the visit of South African president Jacob Zuma.

The international visitor had decided to pop into the Sainsbury's store in Greenwich in south east London to learn more about the company which has strong links with South Africa, reports the Telegraph.

Mr Zuma had decided to take some time out from his itinerary of serious talks with prime minister Gordon Brown and lavish dinners with the Queen.

The visit was quite an event, with Mr Zuma, flanked by environment secretary Hilary Benn and Sainsbury CEO Justin King, and surrounded by a huge press entourage.

However, a rather telling photograph showed John and Catherine Przeslawski with their backs to the president as they browsed the cheese counter and consequently missed the whole event.

When they were asked if they had noticed Mr Zuma and the surrounding press, they innocently replied, "Who?"

Mr Przeslawski, aged 92 and his wife Catherine, 86, just laughed when they were shown the photograph of themselves with their backs to the president's entourage.

Mr Przeslawski said: "We didn't notice anybody, we were too busy choosing our cheese, we didn't see the president at all."

What's this?
