Droitwich Golf Club Offers 50 Free Meals

In the spirit of the coming season, 50 Droitwich residents who are over 50 and in need of some care and attention will receive 50 free Christmas lunches. The event will be offered by Gaudet Luce Golf & Leisure Complex, with backing from Age UK Droitwich Spa.

The event is part of Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign. Club house manager Pauline Jordon worked with the suppliers of the golf course, Brakes Foods, to be able to offer the food free of charge.

Mainly, Ms Jordon’s effort is inspired by The Hairy Bikers’ Meals on Wheels Campaign. She also noticed how much participants in programmes such as the Ready, Steady, Go classes at the gym enjoyed their social time.

For Christmas, she wanted to offer something to those older people who rarely got the opportunity to get out of their homes and connect with others. She said: “It’s great to be able to offer something back to the community.”

Currently, she is hoping to add carol singing to the event, as well as small gifts that can be distributed as Christmas presents.

Many older people suffer from isolation and loneliness, particularly at Christmas time. Events such as the one offered by the golf course will help to ease some of the sorrow that the season brings to many homes.
