Recently, there were yummy culinary celebrations at a residential care home for the elderly. Delicious fish and chips followed by ice cream was on the menu and residents, staff, family and friends at Norton House in Victoria all tucked into this celebration of British Food Fortnight. The residents were even given the opportunity to make their own ice cream with English blackcurrants.

Apparently, as many of us may not be aware, fish and chips were some of the few foods not to be rationed during the Second World War, according to 88-year-old resident Helen Hoey, who worked much of her life in the Royal Navy.

Eating ice cream while on holiday by the sea is a memory much treasured by many older people. Ninety-three year old Eva Redmond, who has been at Norton House for just over a year, said she has always eaten ice cream throughout her life while on holiday and particularly remembers enjoying ice cream while being by the sea in Brighton and Southend.

Antonio Meloni, activities coordinator at Norton House said he really enjoys doing his job, adding: "There's always something going on here at Norton House for the benefit of customers, every day is different."
