It seems that an increasing number of over-50s are following Billy Connolly’s example by doing the things they always wanted to. The 68-year-old Scottish comedian went on a road trip on America’s Route 66 and recorded the experience on Blu-ray and DVD.
A survey was commissioned to coincide with the release of Mr Connolly’s ITV series release of “Route 66.” The survey found that the comedian might be regarded as symbolic of the older generations of today, who are living fuller and more exciting lives than any generations before them.
Many members of these generations are inclined to take unusual and action-packed holidays. According to a report in the Coventry Telegraph, these holidays might include trips like volunteering abroad, road trips in the United States, and travel across Asia.
More than 1,500 over-50s took part in the survey, specifically with the aim of finding out how many were like Billy in finally getting the opportunity to live their lifelong dreams.
Nearly a quarter of those surveyed reported having more than £50,000 in the bank.
According to travel writer Max Wooldridge, it’s not only Billy Connolly who considers Route 66 to be the trip of a lifetime. Many have expressed this as a dream of theirs.
