A new mobile phone is promising to cater to older people who have begun to lose the clarity of their sight and hearing.

With a ring tone that can reach 100 decibels, the earpiece can be even louder than that, at 110dB, leaving little doubt that the owner will be able to hear who is on the line. This is almost as loud as a pneumatic drill.

The Amplicom M6000 also features large, clear buttons for those whose sight is not what it used to be. The screen displays text in extra large print.

The makers of the phone indicated that it caters specifically to the elderly market. There are no complicated or confusing features, making it perfect for those who need a phone simply to, well, phone their friends or obtain help when they need it.

This does not mean that it is without any features. The phone has an SOS button that can phone a relative or friend when there is an emergency. For elderly people who are in danger of falling, the motion sensor is also a useful feature, and can automatically dial 999 or a contact person when this happens.

According to a Mail Online report, an estimated 4.5 million pensioners in the UK do not own a mobile phone. It is hoped that this phone will prove popular with them.
