Age UK Concerns With Social Care System

Age Concern and Help the Aged have joined forces to form Age UK. In its fight for better living for the aged, the new entity has recently voiced its concern with the Health Committee’s report on Social Care.

Medical News Today reports that the main concern is the report’s apparent focus on the long term of social care for the elderly. In the short term, there does not appear to be any short-term solutions for the reform of the care system.

Hilary Evans, the Head of Public Affairs for Age Concern and Help the Aged, welcomed the publication of the report, as well as the aspects that indicate the Committee’s practical plans to reform the system. She however also stated that the current version of the social care system is in “desperate need of reform.”

While the report indicates that there is still time to put aside political bickering and reach consensus on the issues, Ms. Evans said: “We are increasingly concerned that unless urgent action is taken things will only get worse for today's older people.”

Age UK’s aim will be to work together with political parties and other interest groups to remedy the current problems in the social care system, as well as to provide long-term solutions.
