Simon Knighton, a 61-year-old man from Wiltshire has recently decided to attempt climbing Mount Everest in April this year during his career break in Nepal. His aim is not only to show that over 60s are far from “over,” but also to raise £100,000 for the charity Age UK.
Mr Knighton’s endeavor, although unusual, is evidence of an increasing trend among older people. Increasingly, older people are becoming more aware of their physical health and the importance of regular exercise.
Indeed, a recent study cited in a 24-7 press release, found that people over 60 are at least three times as likely to exercise every day as those in their 20s. The obvious benefit of this is that these people are more sprightly than ever before.
Hence the ability of those like Simon Knighton to believe in themselves enough to scale the highest and most challenging mountains.
According to the Year Out Group, Mr Knighton’s website declared: "I am meeting the expedition costs, so every penny raised will go to the good causes."
The site will help visitors to track every step of Mr Knighton’s journey, which will start in Nepal on 2 April.
In addition to raising money for a good cause, this adventure will surely inspire others towards adventure and greatness, regardless of age.
