Government and Senior Concessions








Freedom Pass


Freedom Passes for people 60+ years who live in a London borough to travel free on London's public transport network.

  • Tube, DLR and Tramlink services- Travel free from 09:00 on week days and at any time on weekends and public holidays
  • Bus services- Travel free from 09:00 on weekdays and at any time on weekends and public holidays within Greater London on all bus services operated on behalf of TfL
  • National Rail services- You can travel free from 09:30 on weekdays (or from 09:00 on certain routes and at any time on weekends and public holidays
  • Boats - Freedom Pass holders are eligible for discounts on Thames Riverboat services

Department of Transport


From 1 April 2008 people over the age of 60 will be entitled to FREE off peak local bus travel. Off peak travel is available from:

  • 9.30am onwards Monday-Friday
  • Weekends

The Pension Service


The Government has set up The Pension Service, which is part of the Department for Work and Pensions. If you're 60 or over and living in Britain you may be entitled to the following income:

  • £124.05 a week if you're single; or
  • £189.35 a week if you have a partner

If you're over 65 and have modest savings, investments and income you could be entitled up to an extra £19.71 if you're single and £26.13 if you have a partner.

Identity and Passport Service


The Identity and Passport Service is an Executive Agency of the Home Office. The Agency builds on the strong foundations of the UK Passport Service (UKPS) to provide passport services and in the future, as part of the National Identity Scheme, ID cards for British and Irish nationals resident in the UK. If you are a British national born before 2nd Sept 1929 you are eligible for a free passport.
