Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Once Christmas is out of the way many of our minds turn towards the post-Christmas sales. So where might you find the best sales after Christmas 2011?

1. Westfield Shopping Centre, Shepherds Bush

The sale starts on Boxing at 9am, but doors open at 5am (good luck with that!). Westfield Shopping Centre is one of the biggest in Europe, so there will be something for everyone. Shops include all the top stores, such as House of Fraser, Zara, Jaeger and Gap. There are special offers to be had as stores such as French Connection, Karen Millen, Twenty8Twelve, Oasis and Foyles. Either form an orderly queue in the early hours of Boxing Day, or take your leisure – the sale will carry on throughout January.

2. Harvey Nichols January Sale

Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge begins its sale at 10am on Boxing Day. Here you can find offerings from designers like Stella McCartney and gifts from Givenchy to Pucci and Lanvin. Scarves for the winter, sunglasses for your winter break, makeup and handbags might all provide too tempting to resist at “Harvey Nicks”.

There will be a huge range of items in the sale, so you’ll almost certainly see something that appeals to you, with prices down by up to 50 percent in some cases. Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Paul Smith and Christopher Kane are other names in the sale, which lasts until stick runs out.

3. Westfield Stratford City

Another Westfield – different venue. The same rules apply: the sale starts at 9am, but the doors are open from 5am, if you have an inclination to queue to get the best bargains. This shopping centre, next to the Olympic Park, is brand new, so what a way to introduce London’s Olympic year. More than 200 stores will be participating in the sale, including All Saints, Miss Sixty, Forever 21, Uniqlo, Mulberry, Reiss and Jaeger, and other popular high street stores such as H&M, Miss Selfridge, New Look, River Island, Topshop and Warehouse.

If it takes your fancy, there’s also an outdoor ice rink which opens on Boxing Day, and closing on 8 January 2012. The sale goes on until the end of January.

4. Selfridges

Back to the heart of London and to Selfridges on Oxford Street, with 9am opening on Boxing Day for its sale. Be warned that last year people started queuing from 4:30am, so the bargains on offer are very tempting. There will be as much as 50 percent of some items, with discounts available on beauty, accessories, women’s clothes, home accessories, furniture, luggage and children’s wear. It’s famous, and rightly so!

5. Harrods

Perhaps the most famous sale of them all is the Harrods sale. This one starts on Tuesday 27 December, so maybe you could try out other sales first! Opening at 9am, the sale is usually started by a celebrity. Discounts of around 60 percent will be available, but do remember that the starting prices are usually higher than elsewhere. It may be that the Harrods sale attracts you more for curiosity value than for the cut-price items, and you may even see a celebrity or two out on their sale trip!
