Apparently, Monday 29 November was expected to be the biggest online shopping day of this Christmas period, with an anticipated £537m being spent. If you are that well organised, then you have my admiration, but I suspect that many of us still have our Christmas shopping still to do.
The big online shopping day, though, does demonstrate the way our Christmas shopping habits have changed in recent years, as many people now prefer to avoid the crowds on the High Street, as well as taking the chance to bag more bargains from their keyboards than from the shops.
Probably the king of all the bargain websites is Amazon, with a huge range of goods now available, and nearly all of them undercutting shop prices. The site definitely gets busier at this time of year, though, so do not leave it until the last minute. Look for the availability of the goods you are ordering, and the anticipated posting dates – and take into account the posting option you choose as well. Keeping postage down is a good saver, but will mean your items take longer to arrive. Shopping early is a good idea!
You might be tempted to try auction site ebay for Christmas presents. Be warned, however! Although you might get a fantastic bargain, you may also miss out, and you’d hate to leave your loved ones disappointed. It’s a bit of a gamble.
Other sites to try are thepresentfinder.co.uk, a user-friendly site with a wide range of off-the-wall gifts, and generationd.co.uk will help with those crucial presents for the children.
When shopping online, look out for voucher codes to make things even cheaper.
There’s no doubt that shopping online can bring your Christmas bills right down.
