Saga offers over 50s health screening discounts

It is vital to pick up early signs of ill health before you have symptoms so that if you do have any illness you can be treated earlier and more effectively.

Since May 2006, Saga has joined up with Lifescan the leading provider of private CT assessments in the UK. This service has been deemed a lifesaver as thousands of people have obtained real peace of mind and had early life threatening disease identified and subsequently treated. Saga Health Screening has access to a whole range of discounted scans aimed at people over 50.

Advanced CT scanners, used by experienced radiographers look deep within the body and pick up medical conditions common to the over 50s. There are scans which identify early signs of osteoporosis, heart disease, lung and colon cancers and other major illnesses. At the end you get a written report by a Consultant Radiologist and a CD ROM with all the images from the scan.

Satisfied customers say the discounts represent good value for money. One person simply said that without the scan he or she 'would never have known'. Another pointed out that it avoided the long NHS waits for screening. Finally, a satisfied patient said that he could have had a heart attack 'at any time' and so it was the best investment he had ever made as it had in fact saved his life.

Saga have a questionnaire on their website which enables you to identify if you are at risk from certain conditions. The results are then shown online.

The Saga Multiscan is currently on offer at a discounted price of £530. It is recommended at 5-yearly intervals and works out at only £105 a year. Taken individually the heart scan and colonoscopy would cost £845 so this is good value for money.
