Many older people today are taking longer and more adventurous holidays. Research by P&O Cruses has indicated a 300 per cent increase of such travellers over the past five years.

Post Office Travel Insurance has recently implemented annual multi trip travel insurance to help older people save money.

Known as the “grey gap-years,” older people who retire find themselves in need of enjoying life on a different, more fun-filled level. One problem with this is travel insurance.

To date, older people have struggled to purchase adequate travel insurance at an affordable price. Research by Post Office Travel Insurance has found that 14 per cent of this population had difficulties in this regard.

To help with this PO Office Travel Insurance advises UK holidaymakers in conducting research to find the most appropriate travel insurance to cover them during their time away.

The head of travel insurance at the Post Office, Rachel Croft, said: "We understand that finding affordable travel insurance can prove difficult for older travellers and can lead to people having to take out travel insurance policies that impose high costs or heavy stipulations, which is why Post Office Travel Insurance offers a multi-annual travel insurance policy to the over-65s.”

An annual multi trip travel insurance policy means that people over 65 will be able to take several trips during a year, while worrying about purchasing insurance only once. The policy will then cover them for all trips they take throughout the year.

According to an article by InsurancNewsNet.com, this is beneficial, because it will eliminate the often expensive insurance people are obliged to pay for single trip insurance policies. In addition, these policies are especially convenient for those who take more frequent holidays, such as those in the older age group.

In this way, older people will be allowed to enjoy some much-deserved rest after a lifetime of work.
