A recent report by consumer group Which? was highly critical of comparison sites, suggesting such websites often failed to provide users with the best-value financial products. Which? urged consumers to obtain quotes from more than one comparison site, or to buy direct from the retailer.
According to Which? "Relying on a single price comparision site for financial products such as insurance could leave you with a raw deal". Each comparison website asks different questions which results in price variations across each comparison website. Advice from Martyn Hocking, editor of which?, is "use two or three comparison sites and check directly with providers to get the best quote."
Entering your details and retrieving a quote from one comparision website usually takes 2-5 minutes depending on the questions asked and the speed you enter your information in to the quote form. If you were to get two quotes from comparision websites and then three quotes directly it will take you no more than 25 minutes, as outlined below. It's a very small amount of time to set aside when you think of the savings you can make.
| Website | Minutes |
| Comparison | 2-5 |
| Comparison |
2-5 |
| Direct | 2-5 |
| Direct | 2-5 |
| Direct | 2-5 |
| TOTAL | 10-25 minutes |
