Jane Fonda's Prime Time - Good Anti-Ageing Advice

Jane Fonda, positive and inspiring as ever, has written a book about her life called Prime Time. A section of her book contains sound advice for healthy ageing and longevity. She describes the last three decades of one's life as "the third act" and although older people will benefit it is positive reading for readers of all ages.




In her book, Jane Fonda is brutally honest about herself and her life. She has given herself a "life review" and has come out better for it. She does not avoid anything in her book but perhaps the most useful is the anti-ageing advice she has for us.

Jane says of her book: "I made a list of everything I would have wanted to know when I was in my 40s about getting older,and decided to write a book about it." She also says: "If people can learn anything from me it’s that I’ve not always been happy and I’ve not always been strong." 

The information and advice in Jane's book includes 11 key ingredients to successful ageing. These are:

Getting enough good quality sleep

In sleep the body replenishes itself. We should avoid caffeinated drinks late in the day or altogether and try to eat foods containing tryptophan prior to bed.

Don't smoke

It's much better to give up before you get too old as the effects of previous smoking will be much lessened.

Remain physically active

Even when starting exercise late the body will benefit tremendously.

Eat healthily

It's even more important to reduce quantity and increase the quality as you grow older.

Keep learning

It's so important to keep the brain cells active as you grow older, to take up a new mental activity and do new things lifelong.

Stay loving and connected

Having social connectedness keeps the brain and body young.

Maintain a positive outlook

It has been found that centenarians or people in their 90s all have one thing in common - a positive approach to life.

Nurture the young

Older people who nurture and mentor the young, are passing on their life experience through the generations.

Self reflection

Jane's life review has allowed her to make positive changes in her latter years.

Be concerned about large issues

One way older people can become stronger in themselves is to care about their communities and the world outside them. It is so positive to do something for the greater good and helps protect against loss and bereavement in later life.
